The Wollersheim Winery in Prairie du Sac, WI is a wonderful place to visit if you like wine. It is a great way to rediscover old favorites, and find new wines to enjoy. When visiting friends during a Wisconsin road trip, our friend took us to visit the winery. It was a great way to spend an afternoon catching up and enjoy some samples of wine.
The setting for Wollersheim Winery is absolutely breathtaking, and looks like it should be in a movie. As this was my first visit to a winery, I had no idea what to expect. I wasn’t disappointed, that is for sure!
The trees are beautiful, and walking under them during the summer is cool and refreshing.
We then took a walk around to check out the vineyards themselves. How pretty!
As we started walking over to the main building, I spotted the perfect place to sit and sip wine all day. Don’t you agree?
The main building of the Wollersheim Winery catches your eye almost immediately, and beckons you to come on in and look around.
Let me tell you, the inside of the winery was not at all what I expected. As a self-proclaimed gift shop junkie, I almost didn’t make it past this area. You can just imagine all the different wine & cheese gift products you can purchase. It was a good thing we only had limited space in our car, or I could have gotten carried away with purchasing things.
Okay, once they dragged me away from the gift area, we headed to the wine tasting room. I really didn’t know what to expect because I never did a wine tasting before. Prior to this, I always was under the impression that I liked blush wine and nothing else. Boy did I learn a bunch of things about myself that day.
I did both the white wine flight and the red wine flight. I learned two important things: always try something new AND all white wines are not dry. I found out that there are some dark red wines that I enjoyed and some of the blush wines that I thought I liked weren’t all they were cracked up to be after I had tried some others.
I also took the opportunity to try some port. Again, not expecting to like it, I was pleasantly surprised. And grateful that I was not the designated driver for a change.
So after we were finished and heading out, I had to hit the gift shop. I wound up bringing home a few friends, too.
So that is my review of the Wollersheim Winery in Prairie du Sac, WI. A great place to visit with friends, to try and find something new, and a place for some amazing scenery. Our trip was amazing, and we loved seeing what travel opportunities Wisconsin has to offer.
As we were leaving, we were left with one more piece of wisdom:
As someone that was born in 1972, it was very appropriate. I am aging, but I need to remember to age gracefully!
