The word Jamaica always gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling. It is a place of fun, of relaxation, of love. Back in 1997, after my husband and I were married, we flew off into the sunset to the wonderful island of Jamaica. At the time, it was the first time I was ever out of the country. It was so simple back then for international travel. In any case, we were headed to paradise at Sandals Royal Caribbean in Jamaica. Although, back then, it was called the Royal Jamaican.
I have to tell you it was the MOST amazing vacation that we have been to, at least to that point. We always talked about going back for our 20th anniversary. Over the years, we had kids and jobs and responsibilities, and the thought eventually faded from my mind.
Back in July of 2016, we were picking up the tickets for our Disney World/East Coast adventure trip. A friend of ours was a travel agent, and was handling all of that. It was then that my husband mentioned that we really needed to get on the ball for our anniversary trip! It was then that I remembered about our promise to each other. And so the fun(and the LONG wait)began. Of course it went without saying that we were going to return to the Sandals Royal Caribbean in Jamaica.
So why is the Sandals Royal Caribbean in Jamaica so amazing? Well, there are 4 main reasons why this resort will ALWAYS have our hearts.
REASON #1: The people.
I can’t even tell you how amazing everyone is in Jamaica, not just on the resort. For us, it started the second we stepped off of the plane. We have read a lot about the Club Mobay airport services. So when we booked it, it was a decision we will never regret. Once we were ready to head to the resort, there were the baggage handlers, and the bus driver, and the Club Sandals representative.
Everywhere we went, there was ALWAYS someone smiling and saying hello and asking how they could help us find something. We definitely don’t experience that warmth back home, and I always tell people you need to head to Jamaica to experience it for yourself. REASON #2: The grounds.
I think the saddest part of our leaving was that we weren’t surrounded by lush gardens and flowers. And I was going to especially miss the tree frogs that I affectionately called the “peepers”. To this day, the second I hear that sound, I am transported back to paradise.
So our introduction to the grounds was this beautiful footbridge you cross to get to the walkways to the room buildings.
In the background you can see where Eleanor’s Restaurant is. They had some amazing crab cakes the first night we arrived in celebration of Mother’s Day.
And here is a great view of the Regency Restaurant from the outside. It was our favorite place to eat breakfast(the made-to-order omelet bar was THE best!).
And near the Regency Restaurant, there was the seating area with the firepits. Talk about an amazing place to sit and enjoy a wonderful drink! And then some general overall beauty!
And of course, this wonderful view of the private island and the Royal Thai restaurant. You can also see the Over-the-Water Bungalows, which I had the opportunity to tour. So awesome. The island is a great place to spend the afternoon, with a pool and swim-up bar. There is a wonderful parrot there as well. If you see her, tell Diana I said hello! And if you are on the adventurous side(we were not)there is a clothing-optional beach for relaxation and sunbathing.
But I think my favorite part of the grounds was the view of this gazebo from our balcony. Our original plan was to have our vow renewal there, but unfortunately the rain did not cooperate. It was still really pretty to look at.
REASON #3: The food and drink.
I guess it goes without saying that the food at an all-inclusive resort is over the top amazing. Like I said earlier, there was the delicious omelet and other buffet items at the Regency Restaurant for breakfast.
There was also cereals, hot oatmeal, fresh juices, and amazing pastries. It is amazing I was able to fit into my shorts on the way home.
And, you can’t talk about food at Sandals Royal Caribbean in Jamaica without mentioning The Jerk Shack. Located on the private island, it is beyond amazing! I mean, who can resist this?
As far as beverages go, well, they are just as amazing. For instance:
My absolute favorite creation, the Dirty Banana. It started my love affair with rum cream, and was my go-to drink our entire trip. In fact, the bartender at the Mariner’s Grill remembered my drink and made me an extra dirty(as in more dark rum)Dirty Banana for lunch before our vow renewal. Would you believe I was just as nervous as I was before our original wedding?
Here are some more delicious beverages:
The Bob Marley. This drink was almost too pretty to drink. Almost, but not quite. We enjoyed it very much. And of course, I have to share my husband’s favorite, the Purple Rain.
REASON #4: The Activities.
One of the things that Sandals Resorts does that I love is most of the water sports are included. When we were on our honeymoon, we tried snorkeling and I loved it. I couldn’t wait to try it again(and I made sure I had plenty of suntan lotion on my back this time). Our snorkeling guide “Trouble” was great to be with. He helped me make a new friend:
I think the next time we go snorkeling at Sandals Resorts, I am going to bring my own gear so I can try snorkeling from the beach.
Other things to do includes: Swimming in the main pool.
There is also a pool table: And don’t forget the excursions that you can book(extra fees apply)at the Island Routes desk. While we didn’t have time during our trip, we will definitely take advantage the next time we are in Jamaica!
Also giant lawn chess for those that like playing games.
And, the Sandals Royal Caribbean in Jamaica puts on some really amazing evening entertainment. Our favorite was definitely The Silver Birds Steel Drum Band. I could have listened to them for hours on end. A true taste of the Jamaican island life.
So that is just some of the amazing reasons why you need to plan a trip to the Sandals Royal Caribbean in Jamaica. Just writing this post has me longing to head back to the islands. I wonder if I show this post to hubby if he will be nostalgic enough to book another trip. Maybe I can talk him into a four day weekend for our next anniversary! I think I just need to show him this picture of our favorite lunch!
