As I sit here looking outside my window and seeing nothing but snow, I am absolutely dreaming of warm Caribbean weather and gorgeous blue water. This time last year I was busy planning a trip to Jamaica for a Sandals travel event. I was so excited because I really missed Jamaica and was looking forward to heading back. This trip was extra special because my husband and I were going to be able to visit the Sandals Montego Bay Resort for the very first time.
If you have ever been to Jamaica, you will truly understand exactly what I mean about the island has the friendliest people I have ever met. And amazing food. And the world’s tastiest drinks too. The best thing I love about our Jamaica visits is that we choose to stay at Sandals Resorts. And today I am sharing why a visit to Sandals Montego Bay Resort should be on your itinerary.
Why You Need To Visit Sandals Montego Bay Resort:
Well, you know the old saying, a picture is worth a thousand words. Let’s start with this one:
This is their newly remodeled lobby at Sandals Montego Bay Resort. This is the flagship resort, the very first Sandals resort, and a true gem in the Caribbean. We have been to Jamaica twice before: once for our honeymoon and once for our 20th anniversary when we renewed our wedding vows. Both times we have stayed at the Sandals Royal Caribbean, so it was fun and exciting to visit a new place!
So before I take you on a little tour, let me share some of the amazing things you have waiting for you.
About Sandals Montego Bay Resort:
- Unlimited fine dining at 12 restaurants
- Breakfast, lunch, dinner and anytime snacks
- Unlimited premium spirits
- 6 bars, including swim-up bars
- Stocked bars in every room
- Unlimited Robert Mondavi Twin Oaks® wines
- All tips, taxes and gratuities
- Roundtrip airport transfers
This is actually only a FRACTION of what you have waiting for you. There is so much to do if you are active, and plenty of places to relax if you are not. I loved learning to snorkel, so I was sad that I couldn’t fit it into this trip. But that is okay, because there was so much more to keep me occupied. But if you are interested in water sports, be sure to check out the Aqua Desk on the resort.
Some of the water activities include:
- PADI-Certified SCUBA diving (and all equipment)
- Snorkeling (and all equipment)
- Hobie Cats, paddle boards, kayaks
- Professional instruction for water sports
Like I said, something there for everyone when it comes to watersports. There is also a glass-bottom tour boat if you love seeing ocean life without actually being in the ocean!
So on to our tour. I think I could have stayed in the lobby area for a while, so why don’t we start there.
The Lobby At Sandals Montego Bay Resort
When you first arrive at the resort from the airport(a short 10 minute ride, love it because you don’t have to wait long to start your vacation!!), you see the beautiful sign.
All I know is that when you see that sign, you know that the most amazing vacation is about to begin. So here are a few other things you will find in the lobby. There is the main desk where you check in and exchange money if you desire(honestly, we only did it for souvenirs). What little tipping we did, we used USD.
Remember, Sandals Resorts has a no tipping policy since tips are already included! We only tipped our attendants for the Club Mobay services, the red cap, and the driver. It is SO nice not to have to worry about carrying around cash.
The lobby also includes the Loyalty and Travel Office.
The Island Routes desk, where you can book some amazing tours. While we didn’t get to do it this time, it is definitely something that will be on our list when we go back next time!
There is also a bar, a coffee bar area, a game room, and some comfy seating for when you just want to relax and take in the sights and sounds of Jamaica.
This was a great place to sit and enjoy some rum raisin ice cream topped with rum cream. And I got to see some adorable kitties too! Here is another view of that gorgeous sitting area.
In the background, you can see Tokyo Joe’s, just one of the 12 restaurants on the Sandals Montego Bay Resort. But remember, you also have 2 other resorts that you can visit that makes a total of 23 restaurants between the 3 resorts! Wow, there is definitely something for everyone!
The Food At Sandals Montego Bay Resort
Okay, if you know me at all, I love my food when we are on vacation. Whether it is a tried and true favorite(like my stuffed french toast in Wildwood) or something new, I really enjoy eating when we are away. For example, the breakfast buffets are amazing!
And my husband loved the made-to-order omelet bar.
When were on this trip, they hadn’t completed the new Jerk Shack restaurant. When we stayed at the Royal Caribbean, it was our absolute favorite. The next time we are back in Jamaica, it will be a must go restaurant!
Need to satisfy your sweet tooth? Then Cafe de Paris is definitely the place for you! That is where I got my delicious rum raisin ice cream from!
They have amazing pastries as well. I could this being a daily stop the next time we are there. One of our other favorite place to eat was The Stewfish.
Things To Do At Sandals Montego Bay Resort
Here are a few things to keep you busy when you are at the resort:
- Beach volleyball, bocce ball, pool tables
- Day and night tennis
- Unlimited land sports and state-of-the-art fitness centers
- Day and night entertainment including live shows
Here is the giant chess set and shuffleboard.
Of course there is swimming in the pools.
This is the main swim up bar in the morning before the parties get started. I think it was one of my favorite places to hang out.
Other ways to enjoy the resort include over-the-water cabanas(can be rented daily for an extra charge).
Spending time in the ocean.
Resting and relaxing.
Perhaps you have been under a lot of stress. A stop at the Red Lane Wellness Center will help you with that!
Now, exercise during vacation is not my thing, but if you love it, this is the place where you should be. There is a serenity pond right next to it.
So I have spent all this time talking about the resort, but I have yet to get to the best part. The room!
Where We Stayed On The Sandals Montego Bay Resort
Since this was our first trip to Sandals Montego Bay Resort AND it was a hosted trip, we had no idea where we were staying or what room level. So it was such a pleasant surprise to find ourselves in one of the newly renovated Oceanfront Penthouse Club Level Junior Suites w/Balcony Tranquility Soaking Tub!
Some of the great things about this room:
- Air Conditioning
- Bathtub/shower combination
- Ceiling Fan
- Club Sandals (Concierge Service)
- Coffee and Tea Maker
- Daily Housekeeping
- Free WiFi
- HD Smart TV w/ Cable
- Hair Dryer
- In-Room Bar
- In-Room Electronic Safe
- Iron & Ironing Board
- King-Size Bed (Four-Poster)
- Make-up Mirror
- Nightly Turndown
- Private Luxury Car Transfer
- Red Lane Spa Amenity Kit
- Refrigerator w/ Water, Juice & Sodas
- Room Service
- Sitting Area
- Tranquility Soaking Tub
Can I just say that the soaking tub has spoiled me for any other tub!
So here is a quick tour of our room area. First is the entertainment area with the smart TV overhead.
The TV listed restaurant hours, daily activities, and so much more! And you can see the cute bench my husband is sitting on at the foot of a REALLY comfortable bed!
There is also a large closet next to the bedroom. This also had the in-room safe and the iron & ironing board.
And a nice sink area that made getting ready a snap!
And it had more of my favorite Red Lane Spa amenities. That body wash is great for the soaking tub and it reminds me of the islands everytime I use it! The room has everything you could possibly need for the perfect couple’s getaway!
