Family road trips are one of my favorite activities during the Summer. However, when you are traveling, there is one major problem that you may face: no bathroom in sight. Or when you finally do get to that bathroom, you just want to take off running. Anyone been in that situation? Sometimes when you are traveling, you can get an unpredictable(and definitely unwanted)extra passenger. So for times like that, you need a personal care travel bag that you can grab in a hurry.
All you ladies reading this can relate to how it is no fun to travel by car with an “unwanted personal female passenger”. Sometimes this nuisance passenger is quiet and minds her own business. Other times she screams at the top of her lungs: Are We There Yet? When you are traveling by car, a bathroom may not immediately be known.
So once you do find a bathroom, sometimes it is necessary to stop and run. So to have all the basics you need at fingertips without having a large purse can be key to avoiding a mess. So here’s how you can make your own personal care travel bag.
What Supplies Do I Need To Make My No-Sew Personal Care Travel Bag?
I love that this bag is virtually “no sew”. And it only takes a few things to make.
- Size 5T girl’s tank top in your favorite color
- 1 large button in your color of choice
- Matching thread and needle
- Pants elastic
- Large fabric scissors
- Ruler and sharpie marker
- Optional items(to put in finished bag): hand sanitizer, scented powder, personal care wipes, small Ziploc bag with a spare set of panties(for those times that unpredictable passenger wins the battle)
We tend to do most of our traveling by car. So whether you are traveling for 30 minutes, or for 18 hours like we did for our trip to Disney World and Universal Studios, you know that you are ready to go! Car travel doesn’t have to be an uncomfortable endeavor. And make sure you have a few healthy snacks to hold you over between destinations. For instance, try these no-bake Cheerios peanut butter bars. Yum!
How To Make The Personal Care Travel Bag
This bag is pretty much one of the easiest things you can make. I have no real crafting skills, so for me to make it, you know that it is easy to do. Let’s get started.
Cut off the tags on the tank top.
Lay the tank top flat, then measure 1 inch down from bottom of scoop neck.
Sew the button into place, making sure there is enough room to double loop the elastic that will hold the bag closed.
Measure enough elastic that will allow you to loop around the button twice. Sew at the top of the neckline on the back of the tank top, cutting off the excess ends.
Turn shirt inside out. Measure up 5 inches from the bottom hem, and then cut into pairs of strips up to the mark. Be sure to cut the strips on the end in half(vertically).
Starting from the outside, tie each set of strips into a double knot.
When that is completed, take the right tail from the end, and tie it with the left tail of the adjacent knot, being sure to double knot again. Continue from left to right until all tails are double knotted.
Turn it right side out, and you are ready to fill up your personal care travel bag.
You can see below how nicely it fits into the door pocket of your car, so you can just grab and go when you need it!
