Back in 2016, we took a long trip on the East Coast to explore colleges for my oldest son. It really was an exciting time, and even though it involved a lot of driving, it was so worth it! The only downside to driving is trying to find good accomodations to stay at. After doing some research for a good hotel to stay at in North Carolina, I came across the Fairfield Inn and Suites Durham Southpoint.
We were checking out 2 amazing colleges in the same area, so it was the perfect place to stay for two nights. Smack dab in the middle, the Fairfield Inn and Suites Durham Southpoint was a great place to call home for 2 nights.
As someone who lived in PA for their entire life, it was interesting to head South on a road trip. No matter where we went, the people were extremely friendly and the food was beyond amazing. Shh, don’t tell the Northeners that they can’t compare to Southern BBQ. In any case, let’s get back to this hotel review.
Exploring the Fairfield Inn and Suites Durham Southpoint:
Before you even step into the hotel, you are greeted by some very welcoming sights. First off is the beautiful hotel. The area is clean, neat, and tidy. Next there is a beautiful gazebo.
I would have spent more time out there, but it was HOT and I was tired from driving. I will make a note that it is very convenient to the highway, but you do get the highway noise. However, once you are inside, you don’t even notice. We were on the highway side, and heard no noise from the highway.
As you walk toward the main entrance, you see this nice seating area. Again, a great place to sit and relax.
Then it was time to check-in. I had already checked-in earlier with the Marriott app. After all the driving we did, it was a great convenience. However, checking-in at the main desk would have been just as pleasant.
The front desk staff was so pleasant, and we enjoyed talking to them. They were also genuinely interested about our family and why we were there. I probably would have talked more, but I was too busy checking out the beautiful seating area in the lobby.
It is little things like this that make a good impression when you are staying at the hotel for the first time. There is also a little store next to the lobby where you can purchase snacks or some toiletry items.
It took less than 2 minutes to get our room key, so we headed up. I always ask for a high floor room and extra towels. The hotel definitely honored my room floor request, but the towels were the only issue(and this was at every Marriott hotel we stayed at during our trip). We never received enough towels for the number of people in our room. And no extra towels. It was more of an inconvenience than a problem, because when I called the front desk, they were promptly brought up.
So a little bit about the room area. It was clean and well-kept, although the bathroom was a bit small AND it lacked a fan in the bathroom. Not a deal breaker, but if you take long hot showers or travel with 3 “stinky” men, it can be a bit of a drawback.
So here is a look at the desk and TV area.
It worked really well for my laptop and for charging our phones. There is also a small mini fridge as well as two drawers. Definitely not a lot of room if you have a large family and are staying for an extended amount of time. We only put what we needed for the next day into the drawers and left everything else in the suitcase.
There were two queen sized beds that were very comfortable. The room overall suited our needs for the 2 nights we stayed there.
Here are some other amazing things about the Fairfield Inn and Suites Durham Southpoint. First of all, I loved the open concept of the room layout.
It was so bright and airy, and not closed and dark like a lot of hotels can be.
This is a great view of the common areas from our floor.
Speaking of the common areas, let’s take a look at them. First up is the seating area.
Definitely nice and relaxing and a very open area. Here is a few from the dining area.
To the right of the seating area, is a nice bar. It was early when I took this picture so there isn’t anyone there. However, when we returned after some shopping, it was hopping at night.
And since they serve free breakfast with your stay, there is a nice breakfast area and dining seating.
There were always people around during the dining hours, and once again we noticed how friendly everyone was. Staff was always asking if we were enjoying our food, or checking to see if we needed anything else.
One other benefit at staying at the Fairfield Inn and Suites Durham Southpoint is the free parking. Since we were spending a lot on gas, it was a happy way to save to money on our vacation.
So I have to say, the Fairfield Inn and Suites Durham Southpoint was a great place to stay for our road trip. The price was incredibly reasonable for everything they offered to the hotel guests. So if you are ever in the area, make sure you stay at the Fairfield Inn and Suites Durham Southpoint. You won’t regret it!
