Fall is here and the holidays are just around the corner. Start your Fall kitchen cleaning and organizing today so you can start your holiday decorating.
Most of us just think of spring cleaning once a year as our big overwhelming chore that we need to accomplish. When you break it down into a twice a year task you can get more done and your home looks better year-round.
Also when you take care of your areas such as your pantry, you tend to use up the products rather than having more waste. You also find things that were buried deep in the back corners and prevent situations for bugs to settle in.
As a baker by nature, I tend to have a lot more baking ingredients in the cabinet. At one time, I even had a separate pantry just for my baking products. Now I keep them in my pantry on a special shelf.
How To Start Your Fall Kitchen Cleaning And Organizing
- Pick 3 – 4 Areas you will work on including:
- Silverware Drawer
- Plates and Bowls Cabinet
- Pots and Pans
- Small Appliances Such as Toaster, Instant Pot, Crockpot
- Small Kitchen and Baking Tools
Once you have picked the drawers or cabinets you want to clean, get some clean cloths, baking soda, vinegar, dish soap, SOS pads, large trash bags and whatever cleaning products you like to use. If you have these handy, you won’t have to stop in the middle to go to the store.
Now pick the biggest job you want to start. It’s usually either the Pantry or the Refrigerator.
How To Clean The Refrigerator When You Are Short On Time.
The first thing you can do is remove the items in the door. If you can remove the door shelves either put them into the sink of soapy water or in the bathtub if they don’t fit in the sink. Add a tablespoon of vinegar to the water.
Next, wipe down the bottles that you are saving and throw away the ones that are expired.
Next, clean the inside of the refrigerator by removing the shelves, wiping down the sides of the refrigerator with water, soap, and vinegar. Again, throw away all the old bottles and perishables.
Add a box of baking soda to the refrigerator to keep it smelling fresh. Don’t forget the top of the refrigerator. It may need a little extra scrubbing to get it clean.
To clean out under the refrigerator, remove the grill and run a yardstick covered with a pair of pantyhose underneath.
Tip: Make a meal out of something that is about to expire in the next 24 hours to save money.
Next, go to the freezer and do the same. Write down things you can make today or tomorrow out of these meals in the freezer.
Tips For Cleaning and Organizing The Pantry In No Time.
Cleaning the pantry can feel overwhelming at times. I have a walk-in pantry so it is fairly large. Mine is two-sided, so I usually work on one side at a time or one shelf at a time. I use large trash bags and also a sponge with 409.
Take items off one shelf at a time and wipe down the shelf and throw away all expired foods. You will be surprised at what you find way in the back. I like to try to find things I can make recipes out of when I do this to save money at the grocery store this week.
If you have a label maker or stickers you can write down what goes in that section on the edge of the shelf. I make an area for:
- Snack Foods
- Baking Supplies
- Add whatever items you need to add to this.

Next Work on Additional Areas in the Kitchen
You will notice if you have lived in your home for a while, certain items will get grease build-up.
By cleaning out these areas twice a year, you will prevent the build-up on less used items.
In the next few months, we will be doing a kitchen remodel and I will be removing some of the items I only use once a year and placing them in a large plastic organizer box and placing in our storage. I make a list of these things, but I usually place them near my Christmas Dishes.
I also keep several smaller containers labeled with the different holidays on them, so I can decorate during those times of the year.
Once you have your items removed from the cabinet you can either put through the dishwasher, or sink, or bathtub. Add some vinegar and a small about of baking soda, to really remove any build-up grease. Make sure you wipe down the insides of the cabinets and you can always add a liner to freshen it up.
